Tonight's homework: write a parody or homage poem in the style of Whitman's "I Hear America Singing" and "I Sit and Look Out" (397, 399 in our textbook).  ALSO: Finish excerpts from Whitman's Song of Myself (402--403).  Be prepared to discuss connections with American identity and Transcendentalism!

Whitman and Forms of Poetry vocabulary quiz.
Quick write and share: descriptions of being American, 1840s and today.
Began reading excerpts from Whitman's Song of Myself (Sections 1 and 6, on pages 400 and 401).
Discussed connections to reflection of America's identity and to Transcendentalists.

DUE DATES
TUESDAY, April 4: Whitman and Poetry vocabulary quiz. 
WEDNESDAY, April 5: Whitman parody or homage poem is due.
